A legendary Tiffany diamond
The Tiffany Diamond is a legendary one, for several reasons. First of all, because it’s one of the biggest yellow diamonds in the world, discovered in South Africa in 1877 and later purchased by Charles Lewis Tiffany for $ 18,000.
Thanks to its cut, with 24 facets more than the 58 traditional ones, the diamond shines as if it was enlightened by an inner flame. Not by chance it was displayed among the pièces de résistance of the Universal Exhibition in New York. But the peculiarity of this stone, more than its size and beauty, is to be found in its story. In fact, only four women, during the 19th century, had the honor and the privilege to wear it.
The first one was the wife of politician Edwin Sheldon Whitehouse in 1957, but it’s the following passing of the baton that makes the diamond legendary: in fact, Audrey Hepburn wore it, years later, in the promo pictures for the iconic movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. After decades of exhibitions, another star brought it back in the spotlight: Lady Gaga showed up at the 91st Academy Award ceremony wearing the jewel, ready to highlight her performance during the intense interpretation of “Shallow” for the movie “A star is born” besides Bradley Cooper.
Exhibited in cases in the flagship stores of the group around the world, the Tiffany Diamond has always come back to the Tiffany jewelry store on Fifth Avenue. The fourth and last person, in chronological order, to wear it was Beyoncè who, for the advertising campaign “About Love”, took the precious baton, posing besides her husband Jay Z. When we purchase a jewel or an accessory, we always collect a story, made of tradition, art and emotions.
It happens in all the Tiffany jewelry stores, including that in Galleria Cavour in Bologna, where design, elegance and prestige enlighten every creation.
