Bologna hosts Frida Kahlo – The Experience
With the restart of major events and cultural events, Bologna too reopens to the public the rooms of some of its most fascinating historic buildings to host the important exhibitions that, in previous years, have characterized its propensity to be the capital of art and culture.
Walking through the arcades of via Farini and via Barberia, in fact, a few steps from Galleria Cavour, you reach the elegant Palazzo Belloni, formerly the site of highly acclaimed exhibitions in the past, which since November opens its doors to Frida Kahlo – The Experience . It is a real exhibition-event that rekindles the spotlight on one of the most loved icons of the twentieth century.
The extraordinary life of the artist, emblem of Mexican painting, will be told through a series of author’s shots that portray her in the most intimate and private sphere; the same sphere which then gave rise to the artistic force of his direct and disruptive works. Alejandra Lopez, curator of the exhibition, addressed it like this: “Ojos que no ven corazòn que no sientè” or “Eye that does not see, heart that does not hear” almost to inform visitors that the entire path will be focused on the person more than on the artist.
After all, Frida Kahlo’s life was intertwined with the great events of the early century and with some of the most influential personalities of the time; key figures of contemporary political and cultural history such as Lev Trotsky, Andrè Breton and above all Diego Rivera, the mentor and love of a lifetime, find space in the great novel of his life. As also manifested by his work, the artist’s entire existence, marked by pain and compromised physical health due to a brutal accident, seems to be inevitably intertwined with the suffering of the Mexican people.
The exhibition highlights his journey from his birthplace on the outskirts of Mexico City to the complex consequences of spinal trauma, from international successes to the most intimate shots of his private life with Diego. The exhibition itinerary also includes clothes and jewelry faithfully reproduced on the basis of the traditional clothes that, with pride and claim, Frida wore on the most varied occasions, as evidenced by the famous cover of Vogue Mexico 1937.
In addition to the precious shots, the experience is enriched of innovative interactive paths. Frida Kahlo – The Experience can be visited at Palazzo Belloni, in Bologna, from November 2021 to February 2022.
