New Balance x Miu Miu sneakers arrive

8 June - 2022

New Balance Miu Miu 574

It is a Catullian story of Odi et Amo that between streatwear and ready-to-wear: two diametrically opposed worlds that nevertheless continue to attract and play with each other.

Fashion, as we know, loves to mix the cards of style: it also happened during the presentation of Miu Miu’s spring/summer 2022 fashion show, when Miuccia Prada presented New Balance x Miu Miu sneakers on the runway, the result of a surprising collaboration with the well-known Anglo-Saxon footwear brand. A stylistic crossover that is now finally on sale in all stores, including the one present in Bologna, inside our spaces.

The model chosen and revisited by the designer is that of the New Balance 574 sneaker on whose front tongue both brands’ logos appear. The shoe is designed for a casual, comfortable, crisp look that, however, does not give up the glamour of high fashion. Immortalized in the latest advertising campaign, thanks to the shots of British photographer Tyrone Lebon, the sneakers complement one of this season’s most talked-about and beloved looks: the one consisting of mini-skirts or ultra-short shorts and the now very popular Miu Miu crop top.

The collection’s muses are three figures who, according to the Milan-based company, perfectly represent the interdisciplinary identity of this collaboration, namely: model Alix Bouthors, Senegalese actress Mame Bineta Sane and singer-songwriter Liv.e. Frayed and sophisticated-looking, the footwear deliberately appears a bit vintage: luxury steps out of its glossy confines to embrace an unusual idea of practicality. Available colors include white, khaki or blue with a tan rubber sole.

Reinventing a classic from the 1980s, such as New Balance, which successfully rode all fashion trends for more than 30 years was no easy feat: but it is well known that innovation is one of the most powerful elements to stimulate creativity. Fashion, after all, thrives on new ideas but also on cycles and recycling to be worn with ease, elegance and a touch of irony.
