Cashmere is the fabric of luxury: here’s why

Cashmere is considered the ultimate luxury fabric. The moment you touch it, the yarn conveys a sensation of exquisite softness which, combined with meticulous craftsmanship, creates a sense of desire. Its origins, moreover, are in themselves a story of exclusivity.
Cashmere is, in fact, obtained from the undercoat of the Hircus goat, bred mainly in the geographical area spanning Mongolia, China and the Himalayas. Each animal produces a very limited amount of fibre per year, which is harvested by carefully combing the coat during the spring moult.
To make a single jumper, therefore, fibres from several goats may be required. The rarity of the raw material is thus the first factor that places cashmere in the realm of luxury. The second factor, however, concerns its sensory qualities: it manages to be extremely warm, whilst being incredibly light and soft.
It is no coincidence that those who wear it do so also for the comfort derived from these intrinsic characteristics. This is why, over time, this yarn has become the epitome of "quiet luxury": a discreet elegance that is first sensed and then seen. It is no coincidence that Italian brands such as Loro Piana and Malo have built their identities around this very yarn, elevating it to the symbol of a luxury that respects both tradition and modernity in the name of absolute quality.
In these companies, in fact, the philosophy is clear: the material speaks louder than any logo. The carefully selected production chain, which, for the brands mentioned above, takes place entirely in Italy, requires numerous and meticulous artisanal processes that guarantee a quality capable of standing the test of time.
The luxury embodied by cashmere defies the throwaway logic of fast fashion. That is why, even today, this yarn—initially used by the Mughal rulers to express power and refinement, and later introduced to Europe via the trade routes of the East India Company, represents a choice of conscious elegance and absolute exclusivity.
