Fashion and sustainability: with Coral Gardeners, fashion helps the seabed

Coral Gardeners - K-Way

More and more luxury giants are taking steps to protect the planet. Today we tell you about Coral Gardeners, a non-profit association founded by the then teenager Titouan Bernincot in a tiny atoll in French Polynesia with the aim of regenerating coral reefs damaged or in crisis of survival.

In addition to being a valuable ecosystem where 25% of marine biodiversity coexists, coral reefs protect coastlines from erosion. In recent years, climate change, pollution and increasing acidification of waters have progressively led to an alarming impairment of this habitat with irreparable consequences.

Indeed, it is plausible to assume that, at this rate, in the coming decades this could be the first ecosystem in the world to collapse. Coral Gardeners has been working since 2017 to replant corals and rebuild their living tissue, which is as fragile as it is indispensable. To carry out this ambitious programme, the association needs funds and to raise public awareness, educating the current generation to respect and protect the seabed.

This is why collaborations with the big luxury brands, which are increasingly sensitive to the sustainability of the planet, become essential. Among the big names in fashion, we would like to mention three fashion houses in Galleria Cavour that are supporting these important projects with their commitment. K-Way has launched a collection co-designed with Coral Gardeners: waistcoats, mackintoshes, t-shirts and fanny packs all made from recycled materials in palettes inspired by the colours of the sea. In addition, the brand provides technical equipment to coral gardeners to help them in their endeavours.

The Prada group is also giving great visibility to projects concerning marine conservation by involving Bernincot in the initiatives they support.

Lastly, on the occasion of the famous La Vacanza 2025 campaign, inspired as always by the world of corals, Versace decided to buy as many as 9,000 from Coral Gardeners, to offer customers the chance to adopt one, give it a name and follow its growth from nursery to reef!

Concrete initiatives that are not just marketing choices but real signals: a clear and conscientious stance by fashion to reaffirm that the future is now.
