To dress up during the holidays

Christmas brings with it parties, dinners and social gatherings. Inevitably, therefore, it is a time when each of us is, like it or not, more exposed. This is why the need to take even more care of one’s appearance arises spontaneously: it is a social instinct that between work dinners, gift exchanges with friends, parties and family get-togethers, becomes even stronger.

Being more exposed to conviviality leads us to satisfy our narcissistic side a little more, and consequently to satisfy the desire to look our best and take care of ourselves. December is also the month in which budgets are drawn up and new goals for the year to come are dreamt of: that’s why wearing something new and fashionable helps you feel a little more precious and ready to open a new chapter. Between great seasonal classics and must-haves of the moment, we discover the Christmas trends of 2024 and the hidden meanings they carry.

There is no doubt that burgundy is the colour of the moment: it represents a variation on classic red, making it more current and innovative. Those who wear this trend on accessories or clothes are usually very fashion-conscious: a sophisticated and bewitching personality. Among the fabrics a special place goes to velvet, another great classic of the festive season. Synonymous with elegance and sophistication, it is particularly appreciated by the more intellectual souls and those who love conviviality. Total white is one of the trends that cyclically return to fashion between December and January.

This year, cream and ivory shades are also in vogue. The look, which evokes a bit of snow and a bit of Christmas fairytales, tells of a candid, calm personality, who likes to be noticed while maintaining an aura of reserve. The sequins chapter is certainly not missing in this 2024. Raise your hand if you haven’t seen it worn everywhere between parties and social evenings. Miranda Priestley would call it “groundbreaking“, but for many of us it is an indispensable touch. Those who favour these shiny details usually like to take centre stage: it is the perfect look for those who want to have fun and shine throughout the festive season.

Lovers of tradition, on the other hand, cannot do without tartan: this pattern is ideal for those who want to be always up-to-date and true to themselves, heedless of the fashions of the moment. Impossible, then, not to mention the ugly jumper. Bridget Jones has set the standard, and kitsch fashion at Christmas touches lofty heights with themed jumpers perpetually poised between wow effect and eyesore: the wearer is usually an ironic, over-the-top personality.

In short: clothes speak to us so, even while shopping in Galleria Cavour, let’s ask ourselves what we want to communicate to the world and with which of our best looks we want to start the new year! Even good intentions, after all, are a matter of style.
