Malisa Catalani at Tiffany’s and the other unmissable appointments of Art City Bologna

5 February - 2025

Malisa Catalani - Art City Bologna

There are many appointments to mark in your agenda for the 13th edition of Art City Bologna, the programme of exhibitions and cultural initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Bologna from 6 to 16 February in collaboration with Bologna Fiere and linked to the Arte Fiera event scheduled from 7 to 9 February. For the occasion, the Tiffany boutique in Galleria Cavour is hosting the works of Malisa Catalani, whose exhibition last year had already registered a record number of visitors at Palazzo Vassé Pietramellara.

The bronzes by Catalani, who has always been a sophisticated interpreter of feminine aesthetics, will meet some of Elsa Peretti‘s most prestigious creations, exceptionally present in the Bologna flagship store for the occasion. Anticipated by an inaugural cocktail party in the presence of important city personalities, the exhibition will be present in the boutique for the entire week and will unveil the suggestions that bind both designers in their very personal tale of feminine beauty. One of the most eagerly awaited programmes will undoubtedly be “Le Porte della Città” (The Gates of the City): a circuit of works and installations that will take place along the circular perimeter of the ten entrance gates to the city centre, which in the past, with their walls, delimited access.

Thus, the history and cultural heritage of the city of Bologna meet contemporary art. The same happens at the former Church of San Barbaziano which, after careful restoration work by Studio Poggioli, finally reopens its doors to the public through a special project by artist Per Barclay who, with a spectacular installation inside, celebrates Guido Reni‘s painting “The Massacre of the Innocents“. Always a favourite place for meetings and hospitality, the Grand Hotel Majestic già Baglioni, which has hosted and continues to host the most important personalities on the national and international scene in its suites, is exhibiting Leonardo Lucchi’s bronzes, which will be on display in the common rooms until March.

Another great excellence on the luxury hotel scene, the Hotel I Portici presents an unmissable event: the photographic exhibition “Guscio albume tuorlo” by artists Michela Balboni and Stefania Zanetti. These are two opposing artistic perspectives where the real protagonist is the egg, an ancestral element and narrative thread between nature and human creativity. The historical restoration workshop “LabOratorio degli Angeli” hosts, on the other hand, the papers created by the artist Luca Vitone starting from 1989: the visitor will be the protagonist of a true immersive experience through a restoration intervention that will take place throughout the exhibition.

We also point out the initiatives linked to Supernova, the newborn contemporary art district that aims to become a reference point for artistic experimentation in the heart of the historic centre, next to Portanova. It is here that various creative spaces in the city have created a dynamic ecosystem of workshops and artists’ studios.
With such a rich programme, Art City 2025 is ready to be discovered, and Bologna confirms itself as a cultural epicentre in great creative ferment: capable of enhancing its heritage and looking to the future with impetus.
