The magic of the 37th Il Cinema Ritrovato in Piazza Maggiore
June, in Bologna, is synonymous with major events and unmissable shows. The summer appointment with great cinema shines above everyone again which, starting from Saturday 24 June, will inaugurate the new season of outdoor screenings against the backdrop of one of the most evocative settings in the world: Piazza Maggiore.
This is the 37th edition of Il Cinema Ritrovato: once again the great cinematic masterpieces will return to enchant citizens and tourists amid screenings, conferences and interviews with prestigious guests. The merit of this highly prestigious appointment, as always, is to be attributed to the important restoration work carried out by the Cineteca di Bologna which, in this traditional summer event, sees the culmination of a precious work of maintenance, research and protection.
Also this edition will show the importance of cinema in our culture and its ability to tell the present through the masterpieces of the past: the review will also focus on the directors exiled in central Europe in the thirties and will bring to light narratives and similarities with the present on which it will be necessary to look. In addition to exploring the work of great directors such as Rouben Mamoulian and Teinosuke Kinugasa, ample space will be given to female artists who, with their work, in front of or behind the camera, have embellished cinematic history with their sensational careers: screenwriter Suso Cecchi d ‘Amico, the director Elfi Mikesch and, above all, Anna Magnani.
Just the Italian actress, Oscar winner in 1956 thanks to her role in “La Rosa tatuata” and star of unforgettable films such as “Roma, città aperta” and “Bellissima“, will be the star of this edition which falls exactly fifty years since her disappearance. Among the great guests expected in Bologna, names of international importance stand out such as: Joe Dante, Wim Wenders, Luca Guadagnino and our own Pupi Avati. To inaugurate the event will be the work of Alfred Hitchcock “Spellbound“. The complete program is available on the official website of Il Cinema Ritrovato.
